Alamo Heights ISD is excited to announce Mrs. Yvonne I. Muñoz as the principal of Howard Early Childhood Center.

Muñoz previously served as the principal at Wortham Oaks Elementary School in Judson ISD, the newest elementary in the district, which
she had the honor of opening, hiring the team, and working collaboratively to build and support a positive culture with strong relationships.

Prior to her role at Wortham Oaks, Muñoz served as principal at Crestview Elementary School, also in Judson ISD, cultivating the positive school culture and high levels of academic performance that led to the school being named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2017. Prior to that, she served the school and students as an assistant principal and bilingual education teacher in
kindergarten, fi rst and third grades.

“Yvonne Muñoz is a talented instructional leader who is known for creating a wonderful foundation for young learners through her expertise in early literacy practices. Her own early childhood teaching experiences contribute to that expertise,” shared Dr. Dana Bashara, superintendent of schools. “We are thrilled to have her join our team at Alamo Heights ISD!”

Muñoz shared her enthusiasm for the new role. “I am honored to have been selected as principal of Howard Early Childhood Center. I am eager to build positive, productive, and professional relationships with the entire AHISD community. I truly believe that these relationships are what will allow our students to excel socially, emotionally, and academically.”

Muñoz has a master’s in educational leadership from Concordia University (2009). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio (2004) and has numerous certifications with a focus on bilingual education and instructional leadership.

Munoz began at Howard in June 2021.
